PENSIONS BILL [DRAFT] (subject to outcome of Pensions Commission Review) |
KEY MEASURES
- The modernisation of the UK pensions system is central to the Government's wider aim of providing a modern and sustainable welfare system.
- In February this year, the Government published its 'Principles for Reform', outlining the framework against which it would assess any options for reform to the current system, including any brought forward in the Pensions Commission's Second Report. The Government is now beginning a programme to build consensus on how reform should progress based on these principles.
- In June the Pensions Commission is holding a conference involving Ministers and inviting representatives from other parties and key stakeholder groups, which will seek to open up the issues and provide a sense of direction for the national debate. It will be a chance to increase participation, inspiring involvement from all sides in the run up to the publication of the final report.
- The Pensions Commission is expected to publish its proposals in autumn of this year. The Government expects to publish its proposals for reform following this report and the consensus building programme.
TERRITORIAL EXTENT
