Armed Forces Act


Key Benefits

Continuation of the statutes governing the armed forces.

Replacement of the existing separate legislation for each of the Services with one Act establishing a single system of Service law, including:

- a summary discipline system with a harmonised range of offences capable of being dealt with by commanding officers, and harmonised powers of summary punishment; and

- a harmonised court martial system, including the establishment of a Joint Prosecuting Authority.

Streamlined grievance procedure for members of the armed forces.

Harmonised system of Service inquiries.

Provisions to continue the application of Service law to accompanying civilians overseas.
