EDUCATION BILL |
KEY MEASURES
- Give successful schools and colleges greater independence under effective management, streamlining governing bodies but strengthening the position of parents.
- Allow primary schools, like secondary schools, to become foundation schools by a simple vote of their Governing body
- Encourage new providers into the state system, where they can help to boost attainment, innovation and opportunity locally. This will build on the tradition of church and other faith groups operating in the state system.
- New providers will enter the state system subject to parental demand, fair funding and fair admissions;
- New powers and flexibilities for Ofsted and for Local Authorities in tackling school failure and underperformance, so that parents with legitimate concerns about the standards of their child's school will know that they will be addressed;
- Clauses that repeated last session's fallen School Transport Bill.
TERRITORIAL EXTENT
The Bill will extend to England and Wales.
