CHILD CONTACT AND INTER-COUNTRY ADOPTION BILL [DRAFT]
KEY BENEFITS
- Implements legislative proposals in the Green Paper Parental Separation: Children's Needs and Parents' Responsibilities
- Provides courts with additional means of facilitating contact and enforcing contact orders, e.g. referral of parents to appropriate classes and programmes, awarding financial compensation from one parent to another (where cost of a holiday has been lost, for example), or imposing community based orders. These measures will help the courts to make better arrangements to ensure positive contact takes place in the best interests of the child.
- Provides a clear and transparent statutory framework which makes express provision for the suspension of intercountry adoptions from a specified country where there are concerns about child welfare and the intercountry adoption process in that country.
TERRITORIAL EXTENT
- The Bill will cover England and Wales
