Barbara Keeley MP
Deputy Leader of the House of Commons

Barbara Keeley MP was appointed Deputy Leader of the House of Commons in June 2009.

Barbara is the Labour Member of Parliament for Worsley.  She was brought up in Leeds and attended Mount St Mary's College.  She then studied at Salford University, gaining a BSc in Politics and Contemporary History.

Barbara worked for a number of years in the computer industry for IBM, before going on to work as a consultant and manager with local, regional and national charities and voluntary organisations.  She has also conducted research on health and social care issues and was the co-author of three national reports on carers' issues, which were published by a national carers' charity.

Barbara was Parliamentary Private Secretary to Harriet Harman in her role as Minister for Women and Equality between July 2007 to October 2008.  She was appointed Assistant Whip in October 2008.  Barbara was also Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Cabinet Office in February 2006 and a Parliamentary Private Secretary to Jim Murphy MP at the Department of Work and Pensions from 2006 to 2007.
