Funding of Political Parties

The Leader is responsible for reforming party funding arrangements, taking account of Sir Hayden Phillips' ongoing review into party funding. Political parties are an essential part of our democracy and it is vital that they are funded in a way that is transparent, fair and contributes to a healthy democracy.

Sir Hayden Phillips published a report of his review on 15 March. A link to the report can be found below.

A number of detailed questions remain to be taken forward, through a process of further discussion between the political parties. The Prime Minister has asked Sir Hayden to chair these discussions. It is intended that these discussions should conclude before the summer recess, in order to build a platform for legislation in the next Parliamentary session.  They began on Tuesday 15 May.

On Tuesday 15 May, the Government published its response to the Constitutional Affairs Select Committee's First Report of Session 2006 - 2007 on party funding. A link to this can be found below
