INQUIRIES ACT

KEY BENEFITS

  • Provides a modern and comprehensive framework for statutory inquiries set up by Ministers into events causing public concern. These inquiries will have appropriate statutory powers to establish the facts quickly, effectively and at reasonable cost, thus promoting public confidence in their processes and conclusions.

IMPLEMENTATION

  • Commencement is to be by Order, made by the Lord Chancellor following consultation with the devolved administrations.

TERRITORIAL EXTENT

  • Applies to the UK and covers arrangements for devolved administrations to hold inquiries into matters within their remit.
