Further Education and Training Act 2007


Key Benefits

This Act will equip the further education sector to play its part in delivering the skills Britain needs for the twenty-first century by:

Re-structuring and streamlining the Learning and Skills Council and making it more responsive;

Strengthening the delivery of skills locally;

Helping drive up the quality of further education provision, including through stronger arrangements for consulting employers and learners; and

Modernising the arrangements for demonstrating consensus for industrial training levies and for putting levies in place.

The Act applies mainly, but not exclusively, to England. It includes measure-making powers for the Welsh Assembly, mainly in relation to further education.

Additional Information

The Act reflects the commitments made in the White Paper Further Education, Raising Skills, Improving Life Chances, published in March 2006.
